Natureboy - Natureboy | 2009

Natureboy is the musical project of Sara Kermanshahi, formally of House On a Hill. Since 2007, Natureboy has been gaining a good fan base thanks to her live shows, where she has supported acts such as School of Seven Bells or Marissa Nadler. Her debut eponymous album was released in 2009 and showcased the artist's ability to harmoniously blend folk with a modern sound.

The first thing that struck me with Natureboy was her ability to create an eerie dreamlike atmosphere thanks to her somewhat psychedelic and dark coated folk. The sound is instantly reminiscent of Mazzy Star and the like. Indeed, Natureboy offers a mellow style that, whilst not being groundbreaking or incredibly unique, allows the listener to drift off, to relax, and zone out for a good half an hour.

Natureboy isn't an album full of instant classics or standout songs, it's simply a well constructed piece of work that has a strong inviting atmosphere with harmonious music that, if not exceptional, still remains pleasantly enjoyable. Natureboy is currently working on her follow-up album which is due out this year.
