Mariee Sioux - Faces in the Rock | 2007

Mariee Sioux is a folk singer from the US with an Eastern European and Northern American Indian background. On her first major release, Face in the Rocks, back in October 2007, Mariee blends her roots through her gentil guitar rythms and soft almost angelic like voice, and her Polish father’s mandolin playing and the typical Indian flutes. This mixture gives her record a unique overall atmosphere. Allowing her to create one of the most soothing and relaxing styles of music you’ll ever hear.

Her songs do not follow usual trends, clocking in generally between 5 and 9 minutes each, there isn’t much progression, just the same melodies repeated over and over, creating a trance like state for the receptor. The theme mainly concerns with friendship and love plus her Indian roots. The eight tracks that appear on Faces in the Rocks are all exceptional and although each is unique in it’s own right, they all blend together to form an overall harmony that many albums lack today.

With Mariee Sioux, you won’t find anything ground-breaking but you will find a unique little pearl that somehow continues to escape major attention. Despite a general acknowledgement of the album's quality over the internet, Mariee still remains unheard of outside of the folk circle.
